Slight Launch Delay

November 30, 2009 Leave a comment

Due to the overwhelming ammount of project management and to finnalize a few things and polish the game, we are delaying the launch until after the new year. This moves A Stwalart’s Tale over into 2010, we have a finnalized launch date of 1/14/2010 . I feel this is best for both me as a developer and the player community as a whole. In terms of what still has to be done before launch I have compiled the jargon below.

Shop Database Reform
Vault Gameplay Development
Tier 2 Content
Re-Adjust Skill scripts for the new items database
Re-balance Whispering caverns
Fix Spell Bugs
Fix Item Stacking Sell bugs
Sellas Fringe Layering Check
Kobold Caverns Fringe layering Check
Finish the saludio ashlands zone

Finnaly I can see the light at the end of the tunnel work is progressing nicely. This is such a large project to manage. The game contains over 300+Maps 100+ items and 200+ Npcs. There is so much data that is put into design docs to help keep track…thank god for spreadsheets.

I finished mapping most of the vault it only needs a little bit more, here is a preveiw of the great library that lies inside.

The Vault - Great Library

All the npc item drops have been readjusted now since the item database updates. It’s fantastic the game is running smoothly and stable. We’re not far from launch so stay tuned.

The Stwalarts Tale

~ Zacharius Zetch, 4th day of the 33rd year.

I have made it along with Balizi through the Shadowed Forest. He does not see the bounty of the land before him. I will make my capitol here upon this citadel before the greater mountains. Zamilidor, I will call it. Balizi will be leaving through the pass and into the desert in the morning. His disband from our group only leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

~ Illani Dan E’ri the first Stwalart

And so they met in the desert 10 years after their departure. Each had prospered on his own side of the valley, and each had conquest in their eyes. As they came together for their first meet in those ten long years,  Zacharius slew Balizi with a dagger. And so the bloody conflict engulfed the desert. And the two nations became mortal enemies. Before that battle in the desert each faction was left without a leader, for Zacharius died of thirst wandering the desert a misfortune of the gods some called it.

Shortly after two leaders emerged bearing new banners of war,  Queen Salth’iri of the Black Roses and Darmurian of The Sacred Swords. Salth’iri was a emmissary of the countries to the far east beyond the sea. She in the best interest of making Zamilidor and it’s countries colonies of the Taborean Empire began to lead under the banner of a Black Rose. A symbol of a darker time in the Taborean Empire.

Darmurian was one of the most loyal knights under Balizi and during the original conflict fought off Zacharius and his men. He emerged taking Balizi’s Sword and carrying it back to Kerotor garnering the respect of it’s citizens.

And both…met 12 years later, under different circumstances they met…me.

Assassins Creed 2 Reveiw

Assassins Creed 2 contains some great ideas and is an excellent addition to the franchise. It feels more expansive and just overall larger than it’s predecessor. Most of all, the Storytelling is some of the most powerful I have seen in a game. Sure you see it coming from a mile away but the illusion of the likability of all the characters makes their story to powerful to end. Visually this game is superb, it captures all the aesthetic parts of italy from florence to Venice with such ar’e moire. The italian language that people keep speaking is frustrating if you do not put the subtitles on but for me it made the game all that much more believable. The Game has been expanded huge on the collectable part and everything feels like the Ocarina of Time…which isn’t a bad thing. It’s just epic. This is my game of the year, and I love it.

Bottom Line: Buy It!

A Stwalarts Tale Development Update #11

Holy crap, the largest source mod since the games inception…the largest source code mod in my entire game development career. It has been finished. This new system is one-hundred twenty-six million, thats 126.000.000 times more efficient. It will never de-synchronize either. The FPS of the game has been drastically improved to 64 making things so much more fluid. Special thanks to Scorpious2k for all his coding help.

I am going to be working straight on the games development now…only one more month to go.

A Stwalarts Tale Development #10

It’s been a while since i’ve done a development update. Okay so, Implementation is what i’d like to call this stage. All the work I have been talking about on the item database the quest database it’s really paying off in organization and rebalancing the game. Everything is much friendlier and casual, but there are still hardcore features. Im also fixing bugs inside the engine…

Visual Basic Coding ...Fun

Right now I have all the tier 1 items entered into the game. Including quest items. However I have a lot of quests to re-do, which means that npc drops have to be redone. Plus I have additional quests that i’m adding into the older areas of the game.  The beta test contained 10 tier 1 quests. Version 1.0 will have 20 tier 1 quests. On top of that I will have 7 treasure finding side-quests. With the new item database I also have to re-write a lot of scripts and code with new variable numbers so it’s kind of annoying. Almost all quest dialogue has been changed.

The game will launch with tier 1 and 2 content. The tier 3 content is going to be released shortly after launch as an expansion. Shortly after launch we hope to have around 60 quests in the game.

Good News

There will be no delay…I have finished the items database tier 1. The 2nd and third tiers will be there by launch everything will be on schedule. The quests database has been finished as well.

Possible Delay

The re-launch might be delayed until early 2010, due to the awesome games coming out lately and my ideas about reconstructing a lot of game data. The whole game is basically getting a huge re-balance. I’m going to do an eclipse only beta so the first users are going to be coming from there, if I cannot finish the new item database and re-do all of the quests by Nov 20th. The game will have to be delayed until 2010. So stay tuned until then to find out if I make the deadline.

In other news:

If you want to make some suggestions or have an impact on future development on the game…I’ve set up a form for you to fill out. We will credit your suggestions possibly through the use of in game items or other things. You can find and fill out the form here.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Reveiw

November 12, 2009 Leave a comment

Oh my god…Was this awesome. Modern Warfare 2 is one game I stood in line for at midnight, I was 6th in line and I got my free poster. I rushed home as quickly as I could popped it in got my mountain dew and played through the first three single player levels.  I then fell asleep for about 2 hrs and continued playing until noon when I beat single player. After that I worked on the multiplayer portion reaching rank 22 before finnaly my controllers died. I was enthralled.

Single player is awesome over the top experience with all kinds of sections that make the game you really need to experience go out and buy the game if you haven’t already.

Multiplayer is too new to really make a judgement but everything including the kitchen sink has been thrown in. I love it i’m now rank 26 and still everything feels new. I haven’t even touched most of the guns i’ve unlocked. Enough about that you want a reveiw so here it is.

Single player is full of scripted events filled with action packed context sensitive sequences. It involves you as a soldier in a time of crisis. World War 3…suddenly after an assault on an airport with a downed american soldier the russians are crying for blood. Makarov the prophet behind Zackayev has put together the events that start world war 3. And so goes journey through virginia and burger town all the way east to our nations capitol Washington D.C. however, Makarov doesn’t like that your in Washington and decides to nuke it. So now everythings been E.M.P.’ed and no electronics or communications work…except for in one area. The White House.

Meanwhile an old friend is found in some russian gulag and he goes batshit crazy on a revenge quest that results in one of the most awesome endings to a video game ever…albeit a tad far fetched.

*Update, I just played through the co-op campaign a bit…and let me say it’s awesome they didn’t even have to throw this in…it’s a whole ‘nother game with enough content to keep me busy for a month. It revolves around completing special challanges alone or with a friend…such as hold off a wave of enemy assaults…and no 2 are alike. Plus there are seperate maps in these that are not seen anywhere else.

Multiplayer…

Its fucking call of duty…go play it.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is MY game of the year. Simply because it’s awesome…I got my bang for my buck…A game that I can spend 40Hrs on and not finish everything. Plus…Cpt Price.

The New Vault Music has been finished, and i’ve been working more on the ethereal look that envelops into a floating city. It’s pretty freaking cool. Click Here to download the music.

The Vault

The new Vault look.

I’m still working on mapping the vault but tonight I hope to take a look at some quests. I really have to get on that and finish the vault by next week. The holidays are going to be busy times around here. Also I need time to play Modern Warfare 2 tommorow, well actually midnight 12:01 Nov, 10. I’m getting 10% off because my friend works at wal-mart and all the game crazy’s have recently closed in my area.
